So I have joined Facebook.
But not officially by my own free will. I was sort of strong-armed into it, but yes I finally caved. This... is the rest of the story...
You see, I had been adamantly non-conforming to this aspect of society for quite some time now and my roommate and best friend Laura Mason decided, along with the help of my little sister Heidi Prins, that it would be funny to start up a Facebook account in my name and just not tell me about it. And so it was. Many odd things were quoted about me including ideas such us "I like to eat dirt, chew on my shirts, moo like a cow, and drink soy sauce." Interesting. Many friends were "added" to this account and started "writing on my wall" saying things like "Haha she still doesn't know." And then one day, I'm sitting in my office at my desk and Mackenzie, my YWAM Hockey staff colleague looks up and says, "You're on Facebook?" I knew immediately who was to blame. You should've seen the look on my face. Mackenzie was afraid. I bolted from my chair, ran down the hall to Laura's office, and wrestled her to the ground and sat on her, yelling at her about what she did. It was quite the fiasco and the noise attracted an audience of all our other YWAM friends. They all thought it was quite funny, which it was I will admit, but a very tiny part of my freedom had been violated... my rights as a human being to NOT join Facebook.
I withheld for a few weeks under the pressure to start sustaining the account. Laura did that for me for quite some time. But today I caved. Yes. There is no pride left in me. Woe is me.
