Babs' Broken Foot
I was pulling up to the pump at a Shell gas station last week with Hannah and Babs (my car) when I heard a scrape and a hiss from Babs' front right tire. As it turns out, Shell likes to leave jagged pieces of metal sticking out of the curb at their pumps to prevent people from leaving their gas station in a timely manner. Thank you Shell.
I pulled the manager off of his smoke break and explained the situation to him. He took my information down and said that their insurance company would contact me in a few days. Other than that, he said there wasn't much more he could do except say sorry. Oh, and he gave Hannah and I free Pepsi. That was nice.
Good thing I'm from a farm in Alberta and my Dad always taught me to keep coveralls and work gloves in my car in case of emergency. Especially because I was wearing a very clean and very white sweater that day. Thank you Dad.
I spent $140 on a new tire at Kal-Tire. I have to say, it was the best customer service I had ever received from a mechanic in my life. They dropped me off at a local coffee shop to get some work done while I waited and picked me up again when they were finished. Plus they had originally said they would need to do a wheel alignment and then called back and said I didn't need it. When do mechanics ever change their mind and not do something to your car that they originally wanted to? Miracles do happen people.
Shell has not yet contacted me about any reimbursement. I called their customer service line and I'm pretty sure it was the guy from Slumdog Millionaire in India with a Scottish accent. He said it could take 7-10 business days for the insurance company to contact me. That's more than a few days Mr. Manager...
